A lovely ornamental shrub which is also a good plant for wildlife, being a good nectar and food source for native bees & butterflies. It will flower through spring, with spires of pink to purple blooms. Growing to around 2 metres tall and wide, it can take neglect and some frost and drought. Given regular watering, a handful of slow release fertiliser each spring, and a light prune, it will grow into a lovely garden specimen.

Growing Conditions
Season: Autumn to Early Summer - Perennial
Soil: Sandy and Well Draining - Will tolerate most soil conditions
Watering: Water Regularly until the plant is established, usually around 12 weeks. Tolerates drought once established and is frost hardy. Boost with liquid fertiliser following extremely hot or dry conditions for best results.
Pruning: Trim lightly after flowering to encourage a neat, compact growth habit, regular tip pruning while young will encourage a more rounded habit. Avoid cutting into old wood.
Position: Part shade from Spring onwards
Fertilising: Add some well composted manure when planting and follow up yearly with a slow release native fertiliser.
Use: The leaves and stems can be used for natural dyes, and give a soft yellow colour.
Growing tips: Requires space to spread, can grow well in pot! .
